Abstract

Small catchments are often characterized by high levels of heterogeneity and complexity, especially in relation to their climatology and hydrology. The porpoise of this project is to estimate the water balance at the headwaters of the Cantareira reservoirs system using multi-instrumented watersheds, with field measurements of climatic data (rainfall, temperature, air humidity, wind speed), streamflow, evapotranspiration, soil moisture and water table, with the purpose to investigate the role of the soil, vegetation and groundwater to control the surface water availability regime. For this, we plan to make the final quality data analysis (filtering, calibration and gap filling), interpretation of data and physical processes and article elaboration. With this we hope to progress on the data analysis measured at the Ribeirao das Posses watershed, in Extrema, MG, where the field research under the scope of Tematic Project Climate-Smart Watershed Investments in the Montane Tropics of South America (ClimateWIse) (15/50682-6), which aims to study the hydrological response and impacts of climate change in tropical mountain basins; and a FAPESP/NERC funded international project (FAPESP-NERC 2017/50241-5 International Opportunities Fund (IOF)/Pump Priming Awards: "Brazilian Experimental datasets for MUlti-Scale interactions in the critical zone under Extreme Drought (BEMUSED) has been stablished, where the student Mariane Chitolina is a participant, that will provide the collaboration to be consolidated along the research lines of both institutions.
