Abstract

For a long time the historiographical works referring to the Government of Andrew Jackson (1829-1837), United States, were exclusively based on the person of Jackson or on a social perspective of the historical moment, since this moment is characteristic of diverse contradictions. Currently the focus of this working field is beginning to assume a political perspective. However, the debates focus on a topic related specifically to the democratic concept, the participation or not of groups in the political action. Notwithstanding, this Scientific Initiation has the objective of ascertaining how the Liberal ideal was adapted by the Jackson Government, trying to understand the reasons for this adaptation. Avoiding a merely conceptual debate that does not take the historical moment into consideration, which culminate on value judgments and dichotomies, and separate democratic values from liberal ones.
