Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the surface roughness (SR) of three materials used as surface protectors: Icon® commercial infiltrant (IC), experimental infiltrant (IE) and Prevent resin sealant (SR). Resin disks of the materials (n=120) will be made. After, the specimens of each material (n=40) they will be divided into 2 subgroups (n = 20) for erosive simulation in different solutions: intrinsic simulation (gastric acid) and extrinsic simulation (refrigerant). The demineralizing cycle (DES) and remineralizing (RE) by gastric acid with pH=2.3 will be 2min in DES solution and 60min in RE solution stabilizing TRIS artificial saliva; and by refrigerant with pH=2.9 will be 5min in DES solution and 60min in RE solution stabilizing TRIS. The cycling for both solutions will be performed 4 times a day for 5 days. At the end of the cycling, the specimens will be kept in relative humidity and evaluated again for surface roughness. Then, the specimens will be brushed for 10.000 cycles and will be re-evaluated for surface roughness. Additionally, qualitative SEM images will be obtained from surfaces before and after DES-RE and abrasive cycles. The data will be tabulated and analyzed by homogeneity for subsequent establishment of the parametric and/or non-parametric statistical analysis for comparison between groups of materials used with a statistical significance level of 5%.
