Duplex surface treatment are used when it is necessary to increase the property of a film by performing other treatment on steel surface. DLC films have been object of many cur-rent researches due to its properties such as chemical inertia, low friction coefficient, high hardness and interesting optical properties. However, film growth defects can impair the corrosion and fatigue resistance of the treated material. Also, the DLC film presents low adhesion to metallic substrate. The performance of plasma ionic nitriding in steel have shown promising results in relation to the adhesion increased of the DLC film in these materials. Thus, the aim of this work is to study the effect of the duplex plasma ionic nitriding treatment and DLC film deposition on the wear resistance of the 4340 steel com-pared to the treated material by nitriding or DLC separately. Plasma ionic nitriding, DLC film deposition and duplex treatment (nitriding + DLC film deposition) to plasma will be carried out on 4340 steel. The material with and without treatment will be characterized by metallography, hardness test, profiling, FTIR, DRX and Raman spectrometry. Corrosion testes will be carry out in the base and treated material. Then, it will be possible to deter-mine the synergistic influence of the two treatment on the material behavior.
