Abstract

The tradiotional asphalt pavement network is nowadays dependent on the oil industry, that is related to pollutants emissions on the atmosphere, along with other environmental damages. One alternative is the use of lignocellulosic residues, that have been studied in different economic sectors, as a way to implement the sustainable use of this biomass using the concepts of biorefineries, that envision the complete use of the biomass to generate different products. In this sense, the lignocellulosic biomass might be used as a new binder in pavement layers, aiming the development of sustainable technologies that are also economic viable for roadway infrastructure projects. I this context, the evaluation of different sources of lignocellulosic biomass is proposed to be used as a biobinder to be used along with the aggregate matrix to pavement purposed. In particular, sugarcane bagasse and straw, and rice husk will be pre-treated, characterized and submitted to the fast hydrolysis. This process will generate the biobinders whose properties and applicability in the field will be evaluated. (AU)
