Abstract

The global climate changes affect directly the marine ecosystems and, therefore, have consequences for the economics and socials systems that depend on it. Previous studies showed that climate change, mainly the rising of temperature in the oceans, may have a devastating effect for the marine species. However, the effects of climate change interact with other environmental changes, such as pollution, altering the patterns of observed physiological responses. It is known that the macroalgae exert an essential function for the marine ecosystems because it is primary producer, and although their critical role in the coastal region of Brazil, their responses to such climatic changes are not yet sufficiently understood. In this project we propose a case study for the species of red alga Hypnea pseudomusciformis with individuals of the same population which have color variation (red and green) using physiological data to observe the response presented by both stains submitted to different temperatures (20ºC; 24ºC; 28ºC) and different concentration of nutrients (von Stoch 0%; von Stoch 25%; von Stoch 50%). The pattern of the genetic inheritance of the green lineage will also be verified through in vitro crosses.
