Abstract

The research deals with the field of architecture in São Paulo from 1964 to 1976, seeking to cross analyzes of the aesthetic and political dimensions through its professional, institutional and academic networks, the circulation of discourses, and the projectual production as an object of elaboration, sedimentation, reproduction, and dilution of procedures. These elements will be analyzed approaching the turn of the 1960s to the 1970s, in a period of transformations and impasses in the political, economic and cultural plans, which can be directly noticed in the issues that permeate the production of the architecture in the country. Thus, a new context an amplitude of the order and the programs, mixes with a process of dilution and reproduction of procedures considered to be avant-garde and settled mainly in the previous decade, then allied to the political discourse of progressive hopes and a bet on the project as an instrument of social transformation. From the in-depth analysis of this conjuncture, marked by the military regime, and its impact on the architectural environment, we intend to focus on the analysis of eight projects of the time - two private clubs, two military buildings, two bank branches and two office buildings - from a documental survey and its reading in relation to the individual trajectories of its architects: Vilanova Artigas, Fábio Penteado, Pedro Paulo de Melo Saraiva, Miguel Juliano, Jorge Wilheim, Ruy Ohtake, Paulo Bastos and Siegbert Zanettini. It is not a question of filling historiographical gaps about these architects or giving an account of the history of the programs and orders addressed, but of charting a cross-sectional and transversal reading of the moment of the architectural production of this specific network in the professional field and its relations with the impasses of the context.
