Abstract

One of the main frontiers of ethnosciences today is its articulation with the "ontological turn" in anthropology. This project will explore, at the first time, the role of analogist ontology in shaping ethnobiological repertories in Brazil. As part of the main project that originates this research proposal, elements of an ontological principle have been reported among Brazilian quilombolas from Southeast (Atlantic Forest) and caboclos from North (Amazonia). In this research we will hypothesize that the analogist principle in both ethnographic contexts can be explained as part of the Portuguese colonization in Brazil. In addition, we will also formulate the hypothesis that the analogism is the main structuring principle of non-indigenous ethnobiological repertories in Brazil as a whole. This hypothesis may represent an opportunity for reinterpretation of ethnobiological data generated in Brazil until now. Finally, the heuristic model herein developed, articulating ethnobiology, ontology and history, may also represent a new analytical tool in the field of ethnosciences in an international level. (AU)
