Abstract

Electroencephalography (EEG) is the gold standard exam for diagnosing epilepsy. Usually, a trained neurologist examines the EEG exam, searching for specific patterns that characterize this condition. However, nowadays most EEG exams are digital, and can be easily processed and analyzed using computer methods, ranging from standard digital signal processing to the newest machine learning methods. Here we propose an exploratory study, in which the aim is to analyze data from epilepsy patients using standard signal processing methods, and, eventually, more sophisticated methods, in an attempt to extract meaningful information that has not yet been explored be the scientific community of this field. The study also aims to provide knowledge on these methods to the student, as well as in the field of physics applied to neuroscience. The project will be developed under the FAPESP RIDC "Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology" (BRAINN).
