Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze the possibilities of inserting alternative fuels, such as natural gas, ethanol, hydrogen and electric, as a transition element for a low carbon economy in the transportation sector in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, through environmental and technological analysis. This analysis will be based on environmental impact factors and technological challenges brought about by the political and economic changes of the last forty years in the transportation sector. Alternative fuels are looking for new ways to reduce greenhouse gases, as it emits less pollutants, causes a large reduction in CO emissions, so it is a strategic alternative as fuels can act as a bridge to alternative and renewable sources. Seeking thus a more sustainable range. The result is to demonstrate the relevance of implementing alternative fuels, to understand past, current and future challenges in order to facilitate the entry of each alternative fuel addressed for a more sustainable and clean development in the State of São Paulo. | |
