Abstract

Lateral epicondylitis is a common musculoskeletal condition that affects people with manually intense occupations with repetitive movement that can overwhelm the lateral portion of the elbow. Initially considered as a tendinitis, originating from tendon inflammation, has had its altered nomenclature for angiofibroblastic tendinosis, since few inflammatory cells have been demonstrated in the lesion. Thus, the pathogenesis of the lateral epicondylitis needs to be reviewed. The present study aims to evaluate using the cell culture and characterization of the possible inflammatory cytokines the real role of inflammation in the genesis of the process. Cells from individuals with lateral epicondylitis will be cultured and characterized by immunohistochemical methods using markers for collagen type I, II, III, scleraxis, osteocalcin, alpha muscle actin and vimentin (AU)
