Abstract

This project proposes a comparative reading of two novels by the Italian writer Natalia Ginzburg, Caro Michele (1973) and La città e la casa (1984), taking into consideration the epistolar structure and how it can be articulated with the absence of the characters that leave and the effects in those who wait. Going from the study of the writer's whole work and of the aesthetics implications of the letter form, this work aims to analyse in both books the constructions of the home environment by the detail, the conection between public and private and also to investigate the relation between the fragility of the ties of belonging and representation in modern literature.
