Abstract

In different parts of the world, popular disappointment has grown despite increased investment in development strategies, resulting in the election of governments that belittle or despise social and environmental issues. In this new scenario, new governance structures, with new social agents, are established for policy formulation and management. Research groups around the world have been striving to develop new theoretical and analytical frameworks to analyze this new trend and its impacts. Among these groups are Cardiff University researchers who have been working on developing the concept of 'disruptive governance,' which recognizes that some political activists see disruption as a positive and desirable strategy. The applicant of this project expects to carry out a two-month academic internship with this group of British researchers to explore the theoretical-analytical framework that underlies the concept of 'disruptive governance.' As a result, the applicant expects to apprehend the state of the art of theories, concepts and frameworks that enables to investigate transformations in agri-food systems under disruptive governance, allowing the development of an analysis of the Brazilian situation, as well as comparative studies on the impact of these new governance structures on the possibilities of changes in national and subnational agri-food systems.
