Abstract

The objective of the internship at the Kansas State University in Manhattan is to analyze the structure of the chicken and pork meat production chain in the United States of America, taking the Brazilian production model as a comparative parameter. With a highly complex structure, the American meat production chain is characterized by the use of modern planning systems, organization and coordination of production links, which reflects the vigorous growth of production in the country. Brazil and the United States are today the largest world's producers and exporters of animal protein, reaching productivity levels that ensure the competitive insertion of the sectors in global markets. The hegemony of both sectors is justified by the presence of large corporations that have a monopoly on the markets, forming a hegemonic system of production, industrialization and commercialization. The chain's performance is due to the logic of integrated production adopted by agro-industries, which has provided the sector with significant capital accumulations. In this context, it is worth and challenging to analyze the production model in which most of the poultry and pork meat production chain is currently organized, identifying the characteristics and similarities of the production processes, rural properties and the profile of producers inserted, analyzing in parallel the elements that make up the relationship field vs. city through the agroindustry. With the completion of the internship, it will be possible, besides knowing and investigating the reality of integrated poultry and pork meat production, to understand and increase the subsidies to analyze the Brazilian context of production based on an external view, without disregarding the Brasilian reality. Similarly, it will be valuable in understanding methodologies used for by American researchers, which will contribute to the pursuit of doctoral research in Brazil. (AU)
