Abstract

From the 1960s, where the first laser based in a Ruby crystal as active media was developed by Theodore Maimam, the studies about Laser and it application increased a lot, as noted the applications on medical, industry (e.g. precision equipment, welding and cutting, etc.), telecommunication, barcode reader, CD, DVD and holography. However, important hurdles still need to be overcome in photonic systems, and study of random laser emission is one example. The study of light behavior in disordered media is a fruitful research field, the laser emission at scattering media is resulted from how long time that the photon was trapped inside the material and it allows light to be amplified. In this way, this project aims to obtain alumina particles doped with transition metals (Al2O3:Cr3+) as active medium for random Laser emission, interesting material for photonic application. And it will be produced composited from the luminescent particles on silica glass capillaries, or Silk fibroin protein. The design of the composites that will be obtained in this work will improve the photons confinement in the diffuser medium by controlling the refractive index between the particulate medium and the glass matrix or silk fibroin. All the steps of the project will be systematically analyzed using different techniques, as spectroscopy, electronic microscopy, thermal analysis, XRD, etc., allowing the candidate a wide training during the master degree.
