Abstract

Chronic pain is a major public health problem worldwide, leading to interferences in the biological, psychological and social spheres of the patients' life. Self-management strategies have a central role in chronic pain treatment. Self-management are dependent on the patients' individual skills to drive the patient through behavior changes in an active way. Appropriate interaction with health-related information is needed for the implementation of self-management strategies. The Internet is an accessible mean to disseminate information and overcome barriers such as distance for the implementation of remotely-delivered rehabilitation programs. Objectives: To understand factors involved on seeking, understanding and interacting with health information from chronic pain patients' perspectives. Methods: The research will be structured in two main studies: I) Clinimetrics properties of the Digital Health Literacy Instrument. The instrument will be analyzed regarding its internal consistency and construct validity in people with chronic pain; II) Qualitative study: semi-structured interviews will be performed with primary care chronic pain patients aiming to understand facilitators and barriers faced during seeking for health-related information on Internet. Data will be collected until saturation. Thematic analysis will be conducted. Expected results: Results will bring achievable data for future development of remote delivery interventions addressing chronic pain population' main needs. (AU)
