Abstract

Objective: To analyze the Mothers' knowledge about foreign body airway obstruction before and after educational intervention mediated by in situ simulation. Method: This is a quasi-experimental pre and post test study. The social context of the production of the empirical material will be the home of children under three years old registered in the Family Health Units of a municipality in the interior of the state of São Paulo. A sample of mothers will participate in this study. Data collection will include pre-test, educational intervention, immediate post-test and late post-test, totaling three home meetings. The following research instruments will be used: characterization instrument and knowledge assessment questionnaire. The educational intervention will consist of two simulated scenarios that will aim to develop skills and knowledge regarding the prevention and management of obstruction of airway areas by foreign body, respectively. The previously coded data will be entered in a formatted database in the Excel spreadsheet editor and later analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics. Expected results: The results may support the planning of educational actions that provide an effective management of situations of foreign body obstruction in the home and thus reduce child mortality rates from external causes.
