Abstract

The lot sizing problem consists in determining the quantity of products to be produced in each period over a finite time horizon in order to meet a certain demand and optimize an objective function, such as minimizing costs. With the natural evolution of the industrial decisions process, several strategies have been used to improve the decisions made, making them more complex. Among these strategies, there are recent studies that consider that some data, although deterministic, have a certain flexibility, making the problem more similar to what it actually occurs in practice. This project aligns with this trend of evolution of the decision process. Few papers make a detailed study on the addition of flexibility in lot sizing problems. It is worth noticing that in the supply chain literature, for example, it has been shown that the addition of flexibility in the production process can provide good results. In this research project we intend to help to fill this gap in the lot sizing literature, with the study of flexibility coming from different sources. (AU)
