Abstract

These techniques increase the diversity gain and the probability that, at least, one copy of the original information will arrive at the receiver. As a consequence, data rate and channel performance are improved with no extra cost of spectrum. The advantage of the systems based on multiple antennas (or multiple channels) arises because of the ability to exploit the multiple-path propagation to the benefit of the users, where the multiple-path propagation is traditionally considered a disadvantage to the wireless communication channels.
