Abstract

Traditional models aiming to describe spatially-extended ecological communities assume that individual perception is local i.e., individuals only perceive the environment or detect other individuals at their position. However, it is well-known that living organisms can perceive the environment on a long range. In this project, the student will investigate to which extent long-range interactions affecting the individual movement may drive the emergence of patterns in the spatial distribution of individuals, and whether the consequences of those patterns scale to the community level and control its stability.
