Abstract

This proposal aims to document how Mehinako people understand and experience childbirth and other reproductive processes, following the trajectory of pregnant and postpartum women at the intersection between villages and cities. It is intended to analyse local concepts such as the manapiri (body), investigating how it is constituted and manifested, and examining Mehinako's ideas about humanity and production of person. The objective is to verify the predatory facets of the relationship between mother and daughter/son, investigating how women produce alterity. We seek to explore the constitution of kinship and gender relations through its implications for pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. It is expected to offer subsidies to critically reflect on gender relations in the Amazon, in addition to contributing to the debate on corporeality and reproductive processes among indigenous peoples.
