Abstract

Forest management is an important economic activity in Brazil, for its execution and planning tree growth is one of the main characteristics that should be evaluated, this is usually measured through forest inventories that monitor some decades of tree growth. However, they have low temporal sensitivity to identify interannual variations in tree life cycle. Dendrochronology enables the annual analysis of growth rings, allowing and enabling studies of the historical-ecological dynamics of the trees to delimit the minimum and optimal cutting diameters (DMC and DOC). Although dendrochronological studies on Amazonian species have diversified and aided in understanding the growth dynamics of some species of economic interest, but there are few studies about some economic species as the purpleheart, Peltogyne paniculata, one of the most important species in Brazil. by the characteristics of its wood. Therefore the present project aims to: (I) describe the anatomy and microdensity profile of growth rings formed on P. paniculata trees; (II) analyze the periodicity of growth ring formation, determine the age and construct wood width and density chronologies; (III) reconstruct the growth curves in diameter, basal area and biomass of the species and indicate the minimum diameter and cutting cycle of P. paniculata trees. This proposal will make use of the samples collected for the FAPESP-Doctorate project (2018 / 22914-8) with the financial support of the FAPESP-NSF Project (2017/50085-3). (AU)
