Abstract

This research project aims to expose how we intend to address the following question: how the book The Falling sky: words of a Yanomami Shaman, by Davi Kopenawa and Bruce Albert, presents a new paradigm for otherness in the imaginary of Brazilian literate culture, and what are the meanings and consequences that can be drawn from this for the way we view the relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous, as well as for an intellectual orientation of decolonization of knowledge and of sensitivity produced from the literary studies field. The book comprises the privileged textual body to analyze the issue, but the project involves complementary and interdisciplinary tasks related to the emergence and claim makings of indigenous people as political subjects and as subjects of (self)representation in the hegemonic cultural spheres in Brazil.
