Abstract

Shrimps are highly exploited resources in marine ecosystems because of their high commercial value and are a source of income for numerous fishermen on the southeastern coast of Brazil. Despite its social and economic importance, shrimp fishing is recognized as an activity that generates impacts, some of which are the disruption of the marine substratum and the high catch of non-target organisms from the fishing, due to the low selectivity of the trawl. Currently, these impacts are serious concerns of conservation agencies and the fishing industry worldwide, making ecological analyzes of exploited populations and ecosystems important demands for the management and sustainability of the activity. Long-term population analysis allows the identification of the absence or presence of variations in life-cycle, spatial-temporal distribution and ecosystem diversity patterns and whether these are due to such activity. Thus, in the present study the long-term variability of the abundance and biomass of the crustaceans X. kroyeri, A. longinaris, L. schmitti, P. muelleri, R. constrictus, F. paulensis, F. brasiliensis, S. dorsalis, N. schmitti and E. oplophoroides, species caught in trawling at the Ubatuba Cove, off the coast of São Paulo. In addition, the species diversity of crustaceans will be estimated in the study ecosystem and, later on, the temporal trends of these metrics will be evaluated. The data used will come from 30-minute monthly trawls at 4 sampling points, to be carried out from July 2019 to August 2020, together with data previously obtained at the same points (1995 - 2017) and with the same effort sample. The environmental data available for the whole sampling period and which will continue to be monitored are surface and bottom water temperature and salinity, organic matter content and sediment granulometry. The collected shrimp were and will be identified for the species, weighed (G), measured on carapace length (CCmm) and separated by sex. According to the obtained results, the statistical analyzes pertinent to each proposed objective will be carried out, trying to interpret possible population variations in function of the environmental factors and the effects of the fishing in the diversity.
