Abstract

The adolescence comprehension must go beyond universalizing and crystallized conceptions, considering that it depends on the historical moment, culture and life history of the subjects. Today's western adolescence, a phenomenon that has been increasingly receiving attention is the non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). NSSI is defined as the deliberate self-inflicted destruction of the body or skin tissue without the intention of dying Considering the high demand for care and attention to NSSI, as well as the gaps in the literature, the objective of the present study is to describe and analyze the coping strategies for NSSI, constructed collectively by self-injuring adolescents. The theoretical framework used will be Winnicott's psychoanalytic theory. This is a qualitative research, with data collection using the photovoice method and focus group. The population that will participate in the meetings is adolescents with self-injury history, that go the same school in the city of São Carlos-SP. Data analysis will be made through thematic analysis, anchored by Winnicott's concept of holding. It is understood that the construction of NSSI coping strategies can point out future interventions, besides contributing to the understanding of the phenomenon itself, and giving voice to the subjects directly involved with it.
