Abstract

The International Hub for Sustainable Development (IHSD) is a proposal from University of Campinas (Unicamp) that includes the expansion of the university campus, in conjunction with other institutions, public and private, in its surroundings, to create an attractive environment for synergy of innovative and high-tech activities that contemplate sustainable development, with national and international relevance, in the city of Campinas/SP. The project foresees different occupation and use for an expansion area of the university campus, with the use of renewable technologies and energy combined with the presence of research institutions. These conditions must be deployed in the Unicamp area, within the area defined by IHSD, which includes several institutions linked to science and technology, as well as areas yet to be occupied. This research seeks to expand the use and occupation of the study area, the historical, social and spatial processes of its formation, as well as those related to the IHSD proposals. The methodology includes a bibliographic study, to produce cartographic themes of the study area for the period from 1960 to 2020 and interviews with specialists and administrators, in order to understand the contributions and impacts of this project for it's surroundings.
