Abstract

Era Vargas period, more specifically the Estado Novo regime was significative for the Brazilian historiography, for raised new interpretations and discussions about the national history. The regime's official magazine, Cultura Politica, is a relevant source for the study of such dynamics. This project will seek to analyze the subsection Literatura Histórica of this journal, identified as a space for historiographical discussion, published monthly between March 1941 and August 1942, and written by Hélio Vianna (1908-1972). From this source, we intend to investigate characteristics of the historiographic field in this period, and aspects of the thought of the historian and Universidade do Brasil's catedratic teacher Hélio Vianna. Such inquiries prove to be pertinent since they turn to a key moment for the area of History in Brazil, either because of the reflections and historiographic reviews raised, or because it represents a period of incipient institutionalization of History courses in the country.
