Abstract

This research project aims to deepen the theme of compact green cities, exploring and addressing the multiple scales of landscape planning in an integrated and applied approach. The main objective is to develop a conceptual model based on the results of the candidate's doctoral research (carried out at the University of São Paulo with FAPESP support) and other studies of landscape ecology and urban morphology, articulating the different scales (block-neighborhood-city-region), in order to generate urban design proposals that reconcile greater density and vegetation cover. The case study is the International Hub for Sustainable Development (HIDS), in Campinas-SP. The application of this model in the area will be useful to support morphological studies of the HIDS's masterplan, meeting a real demand. In addition, we intend to test and validate the parameters and guidelines of urban design generated during the candidate's doctorate. The research framework is based on the methodological concept of Design Science Research, since it seeks the advance on the frontier of knowledge, not only through exploratory and descriptive way, but also trough prescriptive way. The experiences and lessons learned in the development, the application of the conceptual model and the validation phases will serve as a theoretical framework for replicability in other cities committed to sustainable development. The knowledge generated may also contribute to the reformulation of public policies, legal instruments and urban parameters, in order to enable positive transformations in land use and paradigm shifts towards more resilient and sustainable cities.
