Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the trip patterns of regular users of a university campus between 2012 and 2019. The goal is to identify eventual changes in trip patterns and the likely causes of those variations, particularly if they were a result of actions implemented by the campus administration aiming at sustainable mobility. The research will be based on data gathered in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2019, through online questionnaires applied to graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and staff in the USP campus at São Carlos. The first three datasets were already thoroughly revised, organized and georeferenced and are currently available as public reports. As the 2019 dataset did not go through this process yet, this will be one of the activities of the scholarship recipient. She is expected to organize a report similar to what was done in the previous years. In the sequence, an exploratory data analysis of the 2019 dataset will be carried out to look for relevant variables and associations between these variables. The following activities will involve a simultaneous investigation of the four datasets for a comparative analysis of the data in different years. The analyses can involve direct visual comparisons (of maps, for example) or the use of more robust techniques of spatial and/or multivariate analysis, depending on the variables or relationships investigated. By the end of the study, we expect to identify: I) the urban areas that concentrate trips made by different transport modes and changes along the years; II) factors affecting changes in modal choice during the period analyzed, and III) the relative importance of the variables responsible for the changes.
