Abstract

The aim of this study is to provide normative data on the "Timed Up and Go" test for brazilian children in order to build references for identification of possible cases of balance disorders in young children. Three groups of fifty typical developing children (aged 3, 4 and 5 years) will volunteer to this study. Dynamic balance will be evaluated by means of the "Timed Up and Go" test, which results will be given in seconds. Growth curves will result from the normative data and its respective variabilities in each age group. These outcomes will provide valuable criteria to compare the dynamic balance development in typical children as well as in children with balance disorders of any ethiology. This knowlegde may be useful to help to identify dynamic balance deficits in young children, especially in cases of vestibular disorders.
