Abstract

Frailty is a clinical syndrome associated with affected health outcomes. The study of frailty among elderly Brazilians is of special relevance, since they live in different conditions than elderly European and Americans, in terms of income, education, access to health and social opportunities. These differences can change the configuration of this syndrome in Brazil, as well as its history and outcomes. The aim of the research is to carry out an evaluation after seven years of two elderly cohorts that were included in the population-based study FIBRA pole UNICAMP, with data collection carried out between 2008 and 2009 in Campinas (n = 900) and Ermelino Matarazzo (n = 384). Make the following answers to the survey questions: 1. Among the robust elderly in 2008/2009, how many are the pre-candidates and the alternates after seven years and what are the factors, among which a set of sociodemographic, psychological, social measures and health a weakness?; 2. A frailty and pre-frailty identified in 2008/2009, in a portion of the original sample, listed in the list of health outcomes after seven years (for example, death, immobility, functional dependency, dementia, hospitalization, others)? 3. Among the robust, pre-frail and frail elderly in 2008/2009, what are the factors that cause major or minor neurocognitive disorders and what are the factors, including a set of sociodemographic, psychological, social and health measures that do you predict these conditions? This investigation will provide information on factors that are likely to intervene that can mitigate or postpone negative health effects associated with frailty. Academic productions will be generated, such as: theses and dissertations, abstracts in scientific events, with publication in annals; articles in national and international journals, and collections of selected texts for undergraduate and graduate students, primary care professionals and managers of health systems and institutions.
