Abstract

This project aims to study the Anglo-Saxon debate on the so-called punitive turn - or the contemporary punitive turn - by focusing on some of the theoretical hegemonic interpretations developed between the 1990s and 2000s in the sociology of punishment. Considering that there is a tendency towards the de-authorization of the criminal justice system associated with punishment in these interpretations, our objective is to map these theses to make them clearer about their empirical and conceptual mobilizations and their general assumptions. The methodology consists of reconstructing the Anglo-Saxon debate about the punitive turn during that period through the systematic reading of the selected theses, with emphasis on the identification and presentation of their argumentative nuclei, as well as on the connections they present with the diagnosis of the tendency towards the de-authorization of the criminal justice system.
