Tracing the evolutionary history of nearby barred galaxies with timer and S-PLUS

Abstract

In this project, we propose to use VLT/MUSE data of the TIMER survey, together with Fabry-Perot and S-PLUS data of nearby barred galaxies, in order to study the gaseous component of the galaxies and the motions taking place within the systems. The project is based in using the MUSE data to determine i) the metal distribution, ii) ionization mechanisms, iii) physical conditions of the gas, iv) electron densities, v) star formation in the galaxies in a pixel-by-pixel manner. The Fabry-Perot data will be used to investigate the gas kinematics in the regions outside the bar and how it connectsto the region within the bar radius. Finally, going to an even larger area, the S-PLUS data will be used to quantify the metallicities, ages and extinction in the outskirts of the galaxies and what is the role of the environment in the process of evolution of these systems. All this information will be used to understand the evolution processes that are taking place in these galaxies and how this is connected to the bars in their centers. (AU)
