Abstract

The family is the main and first environment in which the child establishes relation. When families of children with Down syndrome are considered, often they need support and information on how they can properly stimulate their children, beyond the need for support arising from the demands arising from the syndrome itself. Considering these assumptions, the research objectives will be: (a) to identify and analyze support services, parental satisfaction and social support of families of children with Down syndrome and (b) relate parental satisfaction and social support with sociodemographic data of families of children with Down syndrome. The research will be conducted with approximately 15 fathers, mothers or guardians of children (aged between four and eight years) with Down syndrome. To achieve the objectives will be used the following instruments: Social Support Questionnaire, Parental Satisfaction Questionnaire and a semi-structured interview script. For data collection an interview will be conducted individually. The results will be qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data will be categorically analyzed and quantitative data through measures of central tendency and dispersion. To correlate the variables will be used the Pearson correlation test. These results will provide subsidies for educational intervention programs aimed at this population. (AU)
