Abstract

Violacein is a natural compound with antibacterial, antiparasitic and antitumoral activities. Several published studies show evidence that violacein induces apoptosis, however the mechanism involved in it is still unknown. Using chemical genomic profiling in yeast, we identified direct targets of violacein: Hsp70 chaperones. The present work aims to elucidate cellular effects of Hsp70 chaperone inhibition on yeast and mammalian cells.
