Abstract

Depression and anxiety affect 350 and 264 million people, respectively, worldwide. It is estimated that about 85% of patients with depression may also experience symptoms of anxiety. Likewise, symptoms of depression occur in up to 90% of patients with anxiety. Co-morbid anxiety and depression can occur at any age, from childhood and adolescence to old age. There are changes that allow a connection between the emotional and cognitive centers of the brain with peripheral functions through the interaction between the central and enteric nervous systems. A human microflora is made up of bacterial bacteria in the body. Although bacteria are commonly related to disease, there are bacteria caused by bacteria that naturally grow in the human intestine. The microbiome has been linked to a variety of mental health conditions. A systematic review of existing evidence, including assessment of the risk of bias from randomized controlled trials, as well as verifying the certainty of evidence is necessary to clarify the following clinical question "Probiotics alone or as an adjunct to any treatments are more effective and safe when compared to standard treatments in patients with anxiety and depression? The research project will be carried out at the ICT / Unesp Biosciences Department, São José dos Campos. The following databases will be searched: Medline, CENTRAL, EMBASE, CINAHL and LILACS.
