Abstract

This project aims to perform the experimental study, consistency and the thermodynamic modeling of the vapor-liquid phase behavior of system containing water, ethanol and 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium ethyl sulfate, at 101,3 kPa. Experimental process will be performed in the equipment composed by the modified Othmer ebulliometer, thermostatic baths, temperature and pressure sensors, vacuum pump and digital manometer. The ebulliometer will be coated with glass wool and will have an adaptation for counting the condensed drops of the vapor phase. In the first stage, calibration curves (refractive index and density versus composition) will be made. In the second stage, at equilibrium conditions, the phase compositions will be obtained through the calibration curves. In the third step, the thermodynamic consistency of the experimental data (Wisniack method) will be made. Finally, with the data considered thermodynamically consistent, thermodynamic modeling will be performed using the gamma-phi (g-f) approach, where the activity coefficient, g, will be obtained from the NRTL (Non-Random Two-Liquids) model and the fugacity coefficient, f, will be determined from the Peng-Robinson equation with van der Waals mixing rules. Results will be presented in terms of the deviations of the bubble temperature and the vapor phase compositions (Bubble T), as well as phase diagrams: temperature vs. composition (triangular prism).
