Abstract

In 1970, at the invitation of the newly created Campinas State University (Unicamp), Verena Stolcke (1938-) next to Antonio Augusto Arantes and Peter Fry, founded and developed the anthropology course at this institution. Currently she is an emeritus professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she established after many years at Unicamp; her researches especially concerns the Iberian transatlantic world, highlighting Cuba, Brazil and Spain, studied through a historical anthropology that prioritizes the notions of race and gender. Stolcke's collection includes two and a half linear meters of documentation, including four hundred and forty photographic negatives, apparently referring to an ethnographic field research, in addition to field notebooks, historical research material and manuscripts. Mainly, the collection dates back to the anthropologist's period at the university, so that its classification will set light to the first years of Unicamp Anthropology Department's history.
