Abstract

Kanban boards are tools widely used by software teams that adopt agile practices. Its features allow software teams to have information about project tasks and requirements. Kanban boards are considered to be one of the main sources of visualization of information about the development of the software project. Software startups are organizations in which software development is part of the company's day-to-day work. These organizations produce software for their own consumption or as the product of a service that is provided to their customers. Studies show that startups face difficulties in software development processes which include the use of tools for this purpose. Although the use of the kanban board within the context of software development has become popular, there are challenges regarding communication between the kanban board and the software team. The use of the kanban board and its communication to software teams has not been explored in the context of software startups. This project aims to investigate the use of kanban boards in software startups from the perspective of software professionals working in these organizations. The investigation focuses on pointing out the issues and difficulties that software professionals have when using the kanban board to support their daily work. We will conduct interviews with software professionals of startups and carry out a qualitative analysis of the data gathered. By pointing out and listing issues and difficulties, the result of this project provides elements to sustain future investigations and proposals for improvements in kanban board tools.
