Abstract

Anura is the richest clade of Lissamphibia, with nearly 7,000 living species, but its fossil record is exiguous. Pipoidea have the most abundant fossil record among Anura, but there is no consensus on the positioning of an important portion of the group's living and fossil species. Although phylogenetic analyzes using Total Evidence and including fossil species proved to be effective in retrieving relationship hypotheses, those already conducted focusing on Pipoidea did not include many living and fossil species. There are few fossil Anura records for the Brazilian territory and this project objective to investigate a set of nearly 200 specimens from the Paleogene of Aiuruoca Basin, as well as two Anura records for the Neocretaceous of the Salta and Neuquén provinces, Argentina. Thus, the project objective to: (1) a) Understand phylogenetic/ tokogenetic variations and b) describe the osteology of the fossil species of the Paleogene of the Aiuruoca Basin; (2) a) Describe the ontogeny of this species and b) compare the information obtained with the ontogenetic patterns of other fossil and living Pipoidea species; (3) To elaborate a phylogenetic proposal for Pipoidea using Total Evidence, with the purpose of phylogenetically positioning the studied fossil taxa, in addition to other fossil species; (4) Describe the new Neocretaceous Saltenia specimens from Puente Morales, Argentina. (5) Describe the Neocretaceous Anura specimens from Neuquén, Argentina. (AU)
