Abstract

In the present project, we intend to investigate the photophysical behavior of propolis from stingless bee Melipona quadrifasciata quadrifasciata (Mqq). Propolis will be studied in both solution and solid state, and conjugated with haloisite nano-clay (HNT) nanotubes in different physical-chemical environments, thus enabling the further development of advanced nanomaterials for propolis controlled release. These studies require the use of physical-chemical methods, in addition to spectroscopic methods in solution that will allow not only the characterization of structural changes, but also the determination of thermodynamic parameters of the biomolecules under study. In this sense, it is proposed here the use of spectroscopic techniques of absorption and fluorescence for the photophysical characterization of propolis in different physical-chemical conditions, in the presence and absence of nano-clay.
