Abstract

This project proposes to study Antonio Ferrigno's three paintings with the same title Rua 25 de Março, painted in 1894, and conserved at Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Museu de Arte de São Paulo Chateaubriand, and Abrahão Zarzur's private collection. In addition of the analysis of the works in their formal, thematic, and stylistic concepts, we intend to understand how he included his paintings in the set of São Paulo's iconography, particularly in the last decades of the 19th century, when the painter arrived in Brazil. We propose to understand the purposes behind the production of the paintings about these places in this period. In this trajectory, the subjects related to Ferrigno's artistic formation are also in this project, as well as works by other artists that help us to understand his production about Rua 25 de março.
