Abstract

This research addresses aspects of the methodology of teaching Geography, inserted in the second moment of the based in teaching in Brazil highlighted by Albuquerque (2011). Through documental and bibliographical research, the extracurricular geographic activities indicated for application in secondary school until the 1960s will be highlighted. The purpose is to identify the teaching techniques used in secondary school at the time; to highlight which methodological guidelines were intended for Geography teachers, being in the in the text "Notes on Didactics of Geography" (1960); to understand the scholastic guidelines on teaching methods in Geography; and to detail the technique of direct observation written by Eloísa de Carvalho, in 1960. The guidelines for teachers highlight the context of the production of Geography teaching methodology at the time including the relationship between "Modern Geography" and the elements of "New School" movement. Eloísa de Carvalho was a geographer and Geography teacher. Graduated from the University of the Federal District, she assumed the position of commander of the systematic studies section at the then National Council of Geography, where she wrote the guidelines on the Didactics of Geography in the New School ideary, whose precepts we'll discuss.
