Abstract

This research project aims to map and analyze the composition of the academic field of Sociology in Brazil from the scientific activity of professors linked to the Graduate Programs evaluated by CAPES in the Sociology category. Our intention is to create a "science map" made from exploratory and systemic analyzes that articulate quantitative methodological approaches - scientometry and social network analysis - and qualitative - semantic network analysis and semi-structured interviews - to understand the characteristics from that academic field, measure the scientific results of the selected Graduate Programs and evaluate the impact of the scientific activity. We selected 53 Graduate Programs distributed in all regions of Brazil. The data that will serve as the basis for our analyzes correspond to the bibliographic records of the selected actors and will be collected in the Lattes Curriculum and the Web of Science database. In addition, we will use the content of the interviews to be conducted with 63 actors in this field. This research is expected to analyze, evaluate and demonstrate the potentials and obstacles faced by actors in the scientific field of Sociology, as well as providing to the decision makers, public policy makers and the academic and non-academic population a more accurate and conscious perception of the role Sociology of Brazil and the scientific activities of the actors in this field.
