Telemonitoring of oxygen saturation and fatigue during a circuit of activities of daily living in patients after hospitalization for COVID-19

Abstract

COVID-19, a disease caused by SARS-COV-2, can cause anything from an asymptomatic infection to a serious infection requiring hospitalization. Disease impairments can be both respiratory and multisystemic, about respiratory impairments, arterial hypoxemia stands out, which can be present at rest or during exercise. The presence of hypoxemia associated with symptoms of dyspnea and fatigue can generate limitations in the performance of activities of daily living (ADL). It is known that COVID-19 patients may have respiratory sequela after hospital discharge, however, little is known about the presence of oxygen desaturation (drop in peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2)> 4%) and the fatigue in these patients during ADL in the post acute phase of the disease. Objectives: To identify the presence of oxygen desaturation and fatigue during the simulation of a circuit of daily living activities (ADL) in COVID-19 patients after discharge from hospital, and check for an association between clinical outcomes and the presence of oxygen desaturation and fatigue at ADLs. Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study, in which COVID-19 patients aged from 35 to 85 years, after discharge from hospital, will be recruited. These patients will be evaluated in two moments by teleconsultation. In the first moment, an anamnesis will be carried out, in which cognition and balance will be evaluated to meet the inclusion criteria, in the second moment, a simulation of an ADL circuit will be carried out involving four activities for the monitoring of SpO2 and fatigue (BORG 0-10). Data will be analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, by the Shapiro-Wilk tests, t test, ANOVA test, Sperman and Pearson correlation coefficient with significance level p>0.05. Expected results: Identify the possible existence of oxygen desaturation and fatigue during an ADL circuit in patients compromised by COVID-19, after hospital discharge. (AU)
