Abstract

This research aims to analyze the figurations of the feminine from the painting En Repos (1891 - Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo), by the French painter Ernest-Ange Duez (1843-1896), following two strategies: the first is to make an internal analysis of the work, in order to understand the composition, as well as possible links of the framework with artistic and cultural characteristics of French art from the end of the 19th century, especially with representation of the feminine. Second, this research aims to reconstruct the acquisition of the painting by the Pinacoteca of the State. Purchased, with other works, in 1946, the painting allows exploring problems related to the history of taste and the history of public coleccionism in the state of São Paulo.
