Abstract

Taking into account social processes which have been taking place since the redemocratization in Brazil, with various transformations in the strategies and in the political role of urban movements of right to housing in the context of production of the city, this research project aims to think the changes in the performance of technical consultancies and social projects related to architecture and urbanism in this universe. Having as a starting point the need for recognition, in the Brazilian scenario, of the existence and of the importance of unassisted communities and groups unrelated to urban movements, the changes that have occurred in architecture and urbanism technical consultancy will be investigated compared to the 1990s. We will reflect on the possible emergence of new purposes of architects and urbanists, with the institution, by CAU-BR (Architecture and Urbanism Council), of the Technical Consultancy to Housing of Social Interest (ATHIS, in Portuguese) - and, therefore, in face of a wider variety of actors - and, mainly, on the possibility of insertion of said "non-organized" groups in the advised public, considering their current social relevance after decades of deepening urban policies and growth in the requisition of architects and urbanists' services by this population. Thus, it is intended to comprehend the difficulties, the challenges and the potentials of acting with these groups, their relations with those new purposes, as well as the possible regional differences of apprehension through the ATHIS edicts of the headquarters of CAU.
