Abstract

This work plan aims the characterization and optimization of a cold plasma jet operating in atmospheric pressure for microbial sterilization and application in live tissues. For achieving the goal the development of a robust, versatile, easily operated and totally safe device is needed in order to be used in patients without risk of electrical shock or burning. The group of plasma in Guaratinguetá Faculty of Engineering (UNESP) has a wide experience in the area of plasma jet and its applications, in particular in the areas of surface modification and sterilization. Also, in vivo experiments with animals (rats and rabbits) have been done. A plasma jet was mounted at Institute of Science and Technology (UNESP) where all the biological experiments are performed. The PhD fellowship recipient will study and characterize the plasma jet and look for the best geometric configuration and work conditions of the device. In the end of the project, we will have a safe, easily operated and small cold plasma jet device, totally developed in Brazil, that can be easily moved and installed in medical offices and research laboratories and used for the treatment of patients.
