Abstract Papillary carcinoma is the most common cancer of the thyroid gland. Most patientshave an excellent prognosis, with survival rates ranging from 97 to 99,8%, related toits well-differentiated nature. Even with a low mortality, there are cases in whichpatients develop distant metastasis and that reduces their survival. This situation couldbe associated with several molecular changes, with emphasis on the epitheliummesenchymal transition, its signaling pathway and its markers, such as Twist1. Thus,the objective of this project is to verify, using immunohistochemical markers, molecularchanges that lead to increased invasion and metastasis by the primary tumor. Suchfindings could provide important means of identifying patients at greater risk ofunfavorable evolution at the time of the initial presentation. | |
