Abstract

Natural environments, based on their ecosystem functions, promote the generation and or maintenance of ecosystem services which are integrated with the socioeconomic activities performed by different social groups. Such services include those of direct appropriation, such as the use of natural resources for food and drinking, and also those of indirect appropriation, such as climate regulation, maintenance of water quality and socio-cultural services. However, an important portion of these services has been impacted, with short, medium and long term consequences for the maintenance of these different social groups. In this context, and seeking to align complementary research elements with the Conexão Mata Atlântica project, this project will address the knowledge gaps in the dose-response relationships of ecosystem services for forest restoration and conservation: soil / water, carbon retention, biodiversity and socio-cultural . In the first case, the project involves the study of dose-response relationships with obtaining local parameters. In the case of carbon, it is intended to analyze carbon flows in forest fragments, in order to obtain measures of the carbon dynamics in these environments. For biodiversity, it is intended to study valuation methodologies based on the data and information to be obtained in the Conexão Mata Atlântica project and others. As for the socio-cultural aspects, the project comprises the formulation of indicators and methodology for participatory monitoring of the impacts of the actions of PES programs (including those of multiple uses) for environmental conservation and for the good living of the communities involved, aspects that are still not addressed in actions related to the Conexão Mata Atlântica project and also incipient in similar programs at the municipal level and watershed committees. The knowledge of the spatial dynamics in relation to the use of the Earth, as well as the spatial associations between ecosystem services, in the region under study, are objects of the post-doctoral proposal of the ELOS project.
